(THUNDER BAY, ON) - A lengthy, multi-jurisdiction police investigation into the disappearance of an Ottawa resident has resulted in charges of first degree murder against four individuals from the Ottawa area.
Police were dispatched to a residence on Mona Street at approximately 9:35 p.m. on September 24, 2018 on a report of an assault that had just occurred.
Thunder Bay Police are requesting the assistance of the public.
The victim of the Algoma Street homicide has been identified as David Hugh Sweeney, 59-years-old of Thunder Bay. His next of kin have been notified and the post mortem has been completed.
Investigators are awaiting the results of the post mortem to assist with confirming the identity of the male found deceased in the Kaministiquia River on the weekend.
Kurt Maurice Downer, 36 years old appeared in court on Sunday morning and was remanded into custody. He has been charged with:
Police have released the Cumming Street homicide location that they have had contained since the early Wednesday morning.
This investigation remains active and ongoing.
Detectives with the Thunder Bay Police Criminal Investigations Branch, have been able to identify the male depicted in the brown jacket seen in the video surveillance images with the assistance of information from the public.
