A 17-year-old is in custody following the assault of a man in a wheelchair Monday night.
Thunder Bay Police Service officers with the Primary Response Branch responded to reports of a disturbance at a residential address in the 100 block of Iris Crescent just after 11 p.m. on Monday, June 12.
Officers learned there was a verbal argument between four people within the residence. The argument escalated to physical violence when a youth accused assaulted an adult male in a wheelchair.
Following the initial assault, the youth brandished a knife and threatened the victim.
The accused fled the residence on foot.
Paramedics wit the Superior North EMS were also dispatched to the scene. They tended to the victim before transporting him to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre for further evaluation and treatment of his injuries.
Officers located the accused as they arrived on scene and took him into custody without further incident.
The victim and accused were known to one another.
A 17-year-old male from Thunder Bay is charged with:
• Assault with a Weapon
• Assault Causing Bodily Harm
• Uttering Threats – Death or Bodily Harm
• Failure to Comply with a Release Order
The youth is in custody and is expected to appear for bail court today (Tuesday, June 13).
The name of the youth is being withheld in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
