Thunder Bay Police Service officers were dispatched to a disturbance involving a weapon in the 200-block area of Picton Avenue just after 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday, April 26.

Officers learned that a female suspect was wielding a knife while attempting to fight, chase, and threatening to kill others in the area.

When police arrived in the area, they quickly located a female matching the description they were provided. As police began to investigate, the female assaulted one of the responding officers.

The woman was then taken into custody.

An investigation identified four young victims between the ages of eight and 13 years old.

Police learned the female suspect had approached the four victims while holding an object that appeared to be a knife. Unprovoked, the woman began waving the knife toward the children before chasing them.

She chased the children towards the 300-block of Windsor Street when she dropped her weapon. She attempted to grab another weapon, this time some nearby barbeque tongs, but officers arrived and intervened.

The suspect was transported to the TBPS headquarters at 1200 Balmoral Street.

Marcella ANDERSON, 24, of Kasabonika Lake First Nations, is charged with:

• Uttering Threats – Cause Death or Bodily Harm x 4
• Assault with a Weapon x 4
• Assault Peace Officer

She appeared in bail court in Thunder Bay on Thursday, April 27 and was released with conditions and a future appearance date.
