Two people face impaired driving charges after being involved in separate collisions over the weekend.
Thunder Bay Police Service officers with the Primary Response Branch were dispatched to the 100 block of Vickers Street North just after 9:45 p.m. on Saturday, April 6 for a single-vehicle collision.
A vehicle had collided with a light post and drove away. Officers found the vehicle's front licence plate at the scene.
Officers attended the address listed for the owner, and found a heavily damaged vehicle with a matching rear licence plate.
The 35-year-old driver has been charged with Operation of a Motor Vehicle While Impaired – Alcohol or Drugs and Operation of a Motor Vehicle While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus), along with multiple Highway Traffic Act offences including Failure to Remain and Failure to Report an Accident.
The driver was released on an undertaking and a future court appearance date.
Just a few hours later, at about 2 a.m. on Sunday, April 7, officers responded to a collision in the 1200 block of Golf Links Road.
A vehicle had been headed south on Golf Links Road when it crossed over into oncoming traffic, drove across the sidewalk and into the ditch before colliding with two trees and eventually a building.
The incident resulted in damage to the vehicle and building.
The driver was transported to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre for treatment of injuries.
The 18-year-old driver has been charged with Operation of a Motor Vehicle While Impaired – Alcohol or Drugs and Dangerous Operation of a Vehicle.
The driver was released on an undertaking and a future court appearance date.
