Thunder Bay Police Service officers with the Primary Response Unit were dispatched to an area near the Kaministiquia River Heritage Park just before 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 5 following reports of a suicidal woman in distress.
When officers first arrived, they observed a woman throwing herself into the waterway. One of the first arriving officers jumped into the water in an effort to rescue the woman.
From land, other responding officers made use of a rope in an effort to assist the officer in the water with the woman.
Police were able to remove the woman from the water and bring her to the responding Superior North EMS paramedics.
She was transported to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre for further evaluation and treatment.
