A 10-year-old cyclist has died from injuries sustained during a motor vehicle collision involving a school bus on the city’s north side Tuesday morning.
First responders were dispatched to the corner of Red River Road and Clarkson Street South just after 8:40 a.m. today (Tuesday, May 23) following reports that a cyclist and school bus were involved in a collision.
The youth was transported to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre for further treatment, but later died from injuries sustained during the collision.
Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision. Members of the Thunder Bay Police Service’s Traffic Unit are now involved in the ongoing investigation.
Police believe the school bus was navigating a right-hand turn from Clarkson Avenue onto Red River Road while the cyclist was traveling westbound on the south sidewalk approaching the intersection. At that time the cyclist and school bus made contact.
The scene has been released.
