The Thunder Bay Police Service continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding a motor vehicle collision hit-and-run involving two pedestrians.
Members of the Thunder Bay Police Service’s Primary Response Branch were dispatched to the Simpson Street and Northern Avenue area just before 3:30 p.m. on Monday, July 3 following reports of a motor vehicle collision.
Firefighters with Thunder Bay Fire Rescue and paramedics with the Superior North EMS were also dispatched to the scene.
Police learned a motor vehicle was travelling northbound on Simpson Street when it left the roadway and struck two pedestrians. The accused remained that the scene for a short time before fleeing on foot.
The pedestrians were transported to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre for further evaluation and treatment of their injuries.
A 42-year-old Thunder Bay man died from injuries sustained during the collision. A 38-year-old Thunder Bay woman remains at the hospital in critical condition. The exact extent of her injuries is unknown at this time, but believed to be serious.
Members of the Thunder Bay Police Service’s Traffic Unit are now involved in the continued investigation.
As a result of continued investigative efforts, video has been obtained showing the collision. Video also shows the male motorist exiting the vehicle and eventually fleeing the scene.
Police are urging the motorist to come forward and turn themselves in.
