A Thunder Bay man faces multiple charges after fleeing the scene of a fatal collision Thursday morning.
Superior North EMS paramedics, Thunder Bay Fire Rescue firefighters, and Thunder Bay Police Service officers were originally dispatched to Lyon Boulevard at Rita Street just after 2:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 23 following reports that a motor vehicle had struck a tree.
When police arrived, they learned a male driver had fled the scene, abandoning the female passenger who remained trapped inside the vehicle.
The passenger was removed from the vehicle by first responders, then transported to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. She died from injuries sustained in the collision.
Members of the TBPS’s Uniform Patrol Branch on the scene were able to locate the suspect by following a trail of blood at the crash site to a nearby home.
Officers observed signs that the driver was impaired by alcohol or drug.
Members of the Thunder Bay Police Service’s Traffic Unit became involved in the continued investigation.
Through their investigation, police learned the motorist was travelling southbound at an extreme rate of speed on Lyon Boulevard East. This section of roadway featured a posted maximum speed limit of 30 km/h.
The motorist then lost control of the sedan they were driving, left the roadway and collided with a tree.
David Thomas Edward ANDERSON, 35, of Thunder Bay, is charged with:
• Impaired Operation causing death
• Dangerous Operation causing death
• Fail to stop at accident resulting in death
• Fail to comply with Release Order
• Fail to Comply with Probation Order
He appeared in bail court on Friday, March 24 and was remanded into custody with a future appearance date.
