A man arrested last month on an aggravated assault charge has now been charged with manslaughter.
Thunder Bay Police Service officers with the Primary Response branch were dispatched to an address on Valhalla Inn Road at about 2:15 a.m. on Sunday, February 11 after emergency services had responded to a male requiring medical attention.
Superior North EMS paramedics transported the male to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre with serious injuries that are considered life threatening. The victim, identified as Cayden CARFRAE, 24, of Winnipeg, later died in hospital.
A male was located at the scene and identified as a suspect. He was arrested without incident and brought to the Balmoral Street station.
The police service's Major Crimes Unit and Forensic Identification Unit became involved in the investigation.
Andrei SAVU, 35, of Montreal, had previously been charged with aggravated assault. SAVU appeared in court on Thursday, where the charge was upgraded to manslaughter.
