A Toronto man faces a series of charges, including a count of Trafficking in Persons, following an investigation into an alleged assault at a local motel.
Thunder Bay Police Service officers with the Primary Response Branch were dispatched to a motel on the city’s south side following reports of an assault in progress just before 9:40 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 28.
While en route police learned a female victim had been assaulted by a male accused.
When police arrived they located a male suspect. Further investigation revealed that the victim had been allegedly trafficked from Western Canada to Thunder Bay, and that the male was believed to be receiving material benefit as a result of human trafficking activities.
The accused was arrested and transported to the TBPS headquarters at 1200 Balmoral Street.
Kevin Tyrell HEMMINGS, 24, of Toronto, is charged with:

• Assault Causing Bodily Harm
• Trafficking in Persons
• Material Benefit Resulting from Trafficking Person
• Forcible Confinement
He appeared in bail court in Thunder Bay on Tuesday, Aug. 29 and was remanded into custody with a future appearance date.
