Police arrested a Thunder Bay man Monday following a weekend aggravated assault that sent another man to the hospital critical injuries.

Thunder Bay Police Service officers with the Primary Response Branch were dispatched to a hotel room in the 1000-block of Dawson Road at about 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 5 following reports of an assault that had just occurred.

Paramedics with the Superior North EMS and firefighters with Thunder Bay Fire Rescue were also dispatched. Paramedics were attending to a male victim’s injuries when police arrived on scene.

Police learned a male had assaulted the victim, apparently unprovoked, with an edged weapon. The victim and accused were believed to be known to one another.

The victim sustained serious injuries, and was transported to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre for further treatment. The accused fled the scene before police arrived.

As a result of their investigation, police identified a male suspect.

The accused was located and taken into custody on Monday, Aug. 7.

Police learned the same suspect was connected to a July 16 robbery. On that date, the suspect had entered a grocery store, stole wine, and threatened staff with a weapon while exiting.

Nicholas MORRIS, 37, of Thunder Bay, is charged with:

• Aggravated Assault
• Fail to Comply with Probation Order x 2
• Fail to Comply with Release Order
• Robbery with Weapon
• Obstruct Peace Officer

He appeared in bail court on Tuesday, Aug. 8 and was remanded into custody with a future appearance date.
