Police arrested a Thunder Bay man who robbed a Wal Mart store while threatening staff with a knife Thursday morning.
Thunder Bay Police Service officers with the Uniform Patrol Branch were dispatched to the Wal Mart located at 1101 Arthur Street West just before 9:45 a.m. on Thursday, May 5 following reports of a robbery that had just occurred.
Police learned a male was in the store placing numerous items in a bag. When staff approached the male to ask him if he needed assistance, the accused became irate and began moving toward the exit.
As the male approached the exit, with store merchandise, he retrieved a knife from his pocket and held it toward approaching staff.
The male exited the store while still holding his weapon.
Police arrived and located the male suspect about 10 minutes after the initial incident. Stolen merchandise was returned to the Wal Mart and another nearby retailer that had also been targeted.
The accused was transported to the TBPS headquarters at 1200 Balmoral Street.
James Edward WABOOSE, 37, of Thunder Bay, is charged with:
• Robbery
• Theft Under $5,000
• Breach of Probation
He appeared in bail court on Friday, May 6 and was remanded into custody with a future appearance date.
