It isn’t every day you see a motorist keeping their emergency brakes from malfunctioning with a piece of bungee cord. Except for yesterday, when Traffic Unit officers saw that twice.
Thunder Bay Police Service Traffic Unit officers teamed up with members of the OPP and MTO for a Safety Lane project during the daytime hours of Tuesday, April 25.
The project targeted unsafe passenger and commercial motor vehicles on local roadways.
Officers conducted 48 inspections, which led to 36 vehicles either being deemed either unfit and requiring a safety check or in need of repairs prior to further operation.
Of the dozen vehicles removed from the roadway for being unfit, many were towed directly to a scrap yard.
The results from Tuesday’s blitz follows:
• 48 inspections conducted.
• 12 vehicles plates removed and deemed unfit requiring a complete safety check
• 24 vehicles out of service requiring repairs prior to being operated.
• 37 charges
• 2 vehicles making use of bungee cords to prevent emergency brakes in disrepair from malfunctioning
The Thunder Bay Police Service would like to thank its MTO and OPP partners for their efforts during the Safety Lane project. We would also like to thank all motorists who ensure their vehicles are safe for roadway use.
