Police are advising local businesses to be aware of an apparent scam.

The Thunder Bay Police Service’s Economic Crime Unit has received reports of businesses receiving telephone calls to make credit card purchases.

In these instances, the caller claims to be from a different business but is providing fraudulent credit card numbers to make the purchases.

Police are reminding businesses to follow proper procedures to take credit card purchase orders over the phone, and to make their employees aware of those procedures.
