Today, Nishnawbe Aski Police Service (NAPS) Chief Roland Morrison and Thunder Bay Police Service (TBPS) Chief Darcy Fleury signed a historic Framework Agreement of Partnership between their respective police services.
The signing took place at 11 a.m. (Tuesday, June 6) at a special ceremony at the TBPS headquarters at 1200 Balmoral Street. Senior officers and senior officials from each service joined the chiefs during the signing ceremony.
Today’s ceremony follows ongoing discussions between both services and centres on a shared desire to explore opportunities to strengthen the relationship of the police services and aid in encouraging growth and fostering reconciliation.
Members of the TBPS and NAPS have worked collaboratively in the past, which has led to positive results for the police services and overall public safety of the community’s they serve. The formal partnership agreement acknowledges these past efforts and commits to strengthening them.
From today’s partnership, both police services have agreed to look to jointly to explore mutually beneficial projects. This includes, but is not limited to, mutual recognition of each individual party’s unique skill sets and strengths, and sharing of police resources and experiences to foster and encourage growth and reconciliation.
The City of Thunder Bay, and the communities policed by NAPS, face unique law enforcement challenges. Today’s agreement will help provide each police service with a greater depth of skills and resources to take on some of these challenges.
