The Thunder Bay Police Service’s Economic Crime Unit has received complaints regarding unlicensed lottery or raffle groups operating on social media.
As a response the police service is reminding the public that legislation governing all lotteries requires licensing. Operating a lottery without a license is an offence and could result in criminal charges.
Police would also like to remind the public to avoid unlicensed lotteries and raffles as they may be fraudulent.
