The Thunder Bay Police Service would like to remind all hunters to take extra care in ensuring their firearms are always stored safely and securely.
Please do not leave firearms unattended – in vehicles or in the areas you hunt in. During hunting season, the police service receives increased reports about lost or stolen firearms.
Stolen or lost firearms represent a significant threat to community safety as they could end up in the possession of someone who may use them with criminal intent, or someone who may use them recklessly.
Something as simple as leaving a firearm unattended in a vehicle while you get a cup of coffee could lead to the firearm being stolen.
Firearms being transported should be done in accordance with the Firearms Act.
