Two Toronto suspects have been arrested and charged after police seized a quantity of suspected cocaine and a handgun during the search of a northside home Thursday.
Thunder Bay Police Service officers with the Intelligence Unit executed a search warrant at a residential address in the 500 block of Faircrest Street just before the noon hour on Thursday, Oct. 5.
The warrant was obtained as a result of an ongoing investigation into drug trafficking activity.
When officers entered the home they located and arrested two suspects. The suspects were transported to the TBPS headquarters at 1200 Balmoral Street.
A search of the home resulted in the seizure of a quantity of suspected crack cocaine, cash, and paraphernalia consistent with drug trafficking.
Police also located and seized a handgun and a Conducted Energy Weapon (CEW).
The estimated street value of the drugs seized totals about $11,500 CAD. The total amount of cash seized exceeds $5,000 CAD.
Mckhaila MCKENZIE, 25, of Tornoto, is charged with:
• Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking
• Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
• Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
• Possession of Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
• Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
• Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon x 3
Keyon Shakean SMITH, 26, of Toronto, is charged with:
• Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking
• Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
• Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
• Possession of Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
• Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
• Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon x 3
Both appeared in bail court in Thunder Bay on Friday, Oct. 6 and were remanded into custody with future appearance dates.
