Police investigating numerous break and enters and thefts recovered stolen merchandise Wednesday after following the GPS the suspect unwittingly took from a victim.
A member of the Thunder Bay Police Service’s Break and Enter and Robbery (BEAR) Unit was made aware of a recent break and enter on Thursday, March 16.
The officer learned a male had broken into a local business in the 1000 block of Roland Street just before 1:55 a.m. that day. The male had exited he business with undisclosed merchandise.
Ongoing investigation by members of the BEAR Unit led police to identify a male suspect. In addition to identifying the suspect of this break and enter, police were also able to link this male to a theft that had occurred at a clothing retailer on Tuesday, March 14.
While the investigation was still ongoing, the BEAR Unit was informed that the same business in the 1000 block of Roland Street had again been the victim of a break and enter. This second incident occurred at about 2:40 a.m. on Wednesday, March 22.
Investigators discovered the same male suspect had broken into the business and fled with undisclosed merchandise.
However, unknown to the accused, the merchandise stolen had GPS capabilities. This helped investigators locate and recover the merchandise.
The accused was located and arrested without incident just before 11:45 a.m. on Wednesday, March 22.
He was transported to the TBPS headquarters at 1200 Balmoral Street.
Quinn Roy CHEECHOO, 28, of Thunder Bay, is charged with:
• Break and Enter to Commit x 2
• Theft Under $5,000 x 2
• Fail to Comply with Probation Order x 9
He appeared in bail court on Thursday, March 23 and was remanded into custody with a future appearance date.
