Police seized cash, drugs and arrested five people, including three Toronto-area males, following a search of two Westfort homes Wednesday.
Members of the Thunder Bay Police Service’s Intelligence and Emergency Task Units, with assistance from the OPP’s Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau, executed a search warrant at a residential address in the 500 block of Gore Street West just after 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 13.
Police executed another search warrant at another home in the 500 block of Gore Street West just before 7 p.m. that same evening.
The search warrants were obtained as a result of an ongoing investigation into drug trafficking activity.
When police entered the first home they found multiple people inside. Five suspects were arrested as a result.
One of the male suspects became combative with police during his arrest. The arrest was complete following a brief struggle. During the arrest police learned the suspect was in possession of suspected Percocet pills and cash.
Following a search of the homes, police located more than $10,000 in cash, suspected Percocet pills, a quantity of suspected cocaine, a quantity of suspected crack cocaine and paraphernalia consistent with drug trafficking.
A motor vehicle linked to this investigation was also searched. A search of that vehicle led to the seizure of a quantity of crack cocaine, a quantity of cocaine, and paraphernalia consistent with drug trafficking.
The estimated street value of drugs seized totals more than $31,600 CAD.
Also located an arrested, inside the home of the second search warrant, was a 65-year-old Thunder Bay man who was in violation of a judicial release order.
His release is connected to an arrest made following an October 2019 search of a Mountdale Avenue Home. The results of that search led to the seizure of a loaded handgun, a rifle, cocaine, and paraphernalia consistent with drug trafficking. The male was subsequently charged with numerous offences related to drug trafficking and firearm possession.
Five suspects were transported to the TBPS headquarters.
