Police have arrested a Thunder Bay man on impaired driving charges for the second time in three months.

Thunder Bay Police Service officers with the Traffic Unit were conducting a Festive RIDE program on Algoma Street shortly after 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 16, when a southbound vehicle was stopped.

The driver failed to produce a driver’s licence and further investigation revealed that he was subject to both a driving prohibition for a previous impaired driving conviction, and a 90-day licence suspension after being arrested and charged with impaired driving in October 2023.

Officers determined the driver was impaired by alcohol. He was taken into custody for further testing.

Daniel CASTELLAN, 37, of Thunder Bay, is charged with:
• Operation of a Motor Vehicle While Impaired – Alcohol or Drugs
• Operation of a Motor Vehicle While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)
• Operation of a Motor Vehicle While Prohibited

The vehicle was towed and will be impounded for 45 days. CASTELLAN was again issued a 90-day licence suspension.

CASTELLAN appeared in court over the weekend and has been released from custody with conditions and a future court appearance date.
