Police officers arrested three people on Peter Street just before 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20, in connection with an ongoing drug trafficking investigation.
The investigation was conducted by the Joint Task Force, which involves members from the Thunder Bay Police Service, OPP, Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service and Anishinabek Police Service.
Through this investigation police identified a suspect believed to be in possession of Fentanyl landing at the Thunder Bay International Airport just before 7 p.m. that same day.
During the arrest officers located a quantity of Fentanyl. The three suspects were subsequently taken into custody and transported to the Thunder Bay Police Service headquarters at 1200 Balmoral Street.
Investigators obtained search warrants for a vehicle and a residence in the zero-to-100 block of Peter Street, both of which were connected to the ongoing drug trafficking investigation.
As a result of those searches officers located more Fentanyl, a quantity of Hydromorphone pills, about $28,000 CAD, and paraphernalia consistent with drug trafficking.
The estimated value of the Fentanyl seized is more $160,000, and the estimated value of the pills seized is nearly $1,000.
Taha Sevket KARAN, 20, of Toronto, is charged with Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking, Failing to Comply With Condition Recognizance.
Jonathan Philip TRULIK, 54, of Thunder Bay, is charged with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000, Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking x2.
Shayn Thomas WILSON, 35, of Thunder Bay, is charged with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000, Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking x 2.
All three accused appeared in court Thursday and were remanded into custody with future appearance dates.
This is the largest single seizure of Fentanyl in Thunder Bay to date.
