An observant Thunder Bay Police Service officer was in the area of City Hall just before 10 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 28 when she saw an assault in progress.
A bus driver was walking northbound on May Street around this time when he was verbally accosted and then assaulted by a male. A female approached the accused immediately and pulled him away from the victim, at which point the accused attempted to flee the area on foot.
The TBPS officer spotted the accused heading eastbound on Donald Street and caught up with him as he ran northbound down a back alley in the 100 block of May Street.
The officer placed the accused under arrest. The accused resisted, but after a brief struggle the officer was able to take the accused into custody about five minutes following the initial assault.
Earl Felton SAKANEE, 31, is charged with Assault and Resist Peace Officer.
