Attempted murder suspect arrested

Police have arrested a suspect wanted for attempted murder in relation to an incident in Thunder Bay in July 2023. 

Thunder Bay Police Service officers had been dispatched to the 200 block area of Cumming Street on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, following reports of an injured male and a possible shooting incident. 

Paramedics with Superior North EMS transported the injured male to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre for further evaluation and treatment of those injuries. 

As a result of the continued investigation, a suspect was identified. 

On Saturday, January 27, Thunder Bay Police Service officers with the Emergency Task Unit, Break and Enter, Armed Robbery (BEAR) Unit and Major Crimes Unit located and arrested the suspect at an address in the 100 block of May Street North. 

Yusuf Bashir YUSUF, 22, of Toronto, is charged with the following: 

• Attempt to Commit Murder with Firearm 
• Pointing a Firearm 
• Carrying Concealed Weapon 
• Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm – Restricted 
• Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition 
• Tampering with Serial Number 

YUSUF appeared in court on Sunday, January 28 and was remanded into custody with a future appearance date.
