The victim of a recent aggravated assault has died, and as a result their death is now being treated as a homicide investigation.
Thunder Bay Police Service officers with the Primary Response Branch were originally dispatched to a residential address in the 200 block of Robertson Street just after 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 20, following reports of an injured male.
When police arrived they located an adult male, who was in the care of responding paramedics, and appeared to have been the victim of a recent serious assault. The victim was transported to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre for further evaluation and treatment of his injuries.
Through the course of their investigation, police identified a male suspect. The suspect was located, arrested, and transported to the TBPS headquarters at 1200 Balmoral Street on Wednesday, Sept. 20.
Members of the TBPS’s Major Crimes and Forensic Identification Units have become involved in the continued investigation.
Randy ANDREWS, 24, of Thunder Bay, was originally charged with Aggravated Assault.
The male victim, a 63-year-old Thunder Bay man, died from his injuries in the hospital on Wednesday, Sept. 27.
As a result, ANDREWS now faces a charge of Second-Degree Murder.
He remains in custody and is expected to appear in court on Thursday, Sept. 28.
