Police located and arrested a male suspect Saturday afternoon who was connected to a weekend armed robbery on the city’s north side.
Thunder Bay Police Service officers with the Primary Response Branch were dispatched to a homeless encampment in the area of 100 Pearl Street just after 11:15 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 12 following reports of an accused armed robbery suspect being in the area.
The reported robbery occurred during the evening hours of Friday, Aug. 11 at the Circle K convenience store in the 100 block of Cumberland Street North.
Police learned a male had entered the business, threatened staff with a knife, and fled the area on foot with an undisclosed amount of money and store merchandise.
Following a brief search of the area, officers located the male suspect on the corner of Algoma and Dufferin Streets. He was arrested without further incident and transported to the TBPS headquarters at 1200 Balmoral Street.
Jonathan James BECKER, 30, of Thunder Bay, is charged with:
• Armed Robbery
• Disguise with Intent
• Fail to Comply with Probation Order
He appeared in bail court on Sunday, Aug. 13 and was remanded into custody with a future appearance date.
